"Sovjet Supreme" was the last official release of Sieg Über Die Sonne
a controversial comment on Discogs:

catfood 7. April 2007
I bought this based on a recommendation from a fellow ogger. When i put it on, steam started rolling out my ears. "Sovjet Supreme" does not sample "Equinoxe VII," it is a direct copy of the track. The percussion, the bassline, the synth lines...identical. Jean-Michel Jarre should be pissed, i certainly was disappointed. Having said that, "Equinoxe VII" is a stellar track. Minimal techno 30 years ago, still sounds fresh today. Shame these folks "borrowed" it and renamed it. Do a "Pepsi challenge" and listen to both. You will find they are virtually identical.

I don't get it. Accusing Sieg ueber die Sonne of stealing from JMJ is ridiculous. There is no resemblance between the two tracks at all. The bassline of "Soviet Supreme" only partially consists of one note being transposed, which is common practise in club music productions btw. The syncopation is different, more dynamic, there are no layers of harmonic sound. You could rather accuse JMJ from copying the bassline of "Autobahn" by Kraftwerk from 1974.

Further, I find it disturbing that more and more (young) people define Minimal Techno as measure of all things - which would be certainly an insult to JMJ. His productions. the majority of electronic music releases from the 60es, 70es and 80es and the complexity of their musical freedom - when rhythm wasn't a dogma - is so much more passionate, deep, playful, elaborated, inspiring. While Minimal Techno, the functional club point of view, appears to mark the inglorious end of all inspiration connected with electronic music production.
